Club Notes 19-09-2019

The past week saw both the U16’s and U12’s in action.

Firstly, on Wednesday evening the 11th, the U16’s travelled west to Kealkil to take on Urhan, in the Quarter Final of the championship. Both teams settled quickly, and a quality game of football was produced, with excellent scores being taken by both sides. The Kilmacs seem to favour going for goal more than their opponents and this left them trailing by 2 points at the short whistle, Kilmacabea 3-3 to Urhan’s 2-8. The second half turned out to be a different affair, with the Kilmac defence getting on top of their opposite numbers, leaving the Kilmac attacking unit to kick 0-9 points to their opponents 1-3. This saw the Kilmacs emerge two-point winners on the night, final score being Kilmacabea 3-12 Urhan 3-11.

The U12’s were next in action, as they took on Kilmichael in their league final in John William Goulding Park. Against stronger opposition though the Kilmacs found the going much tougher than in previous games and had to give way to the superior team on the night. Despite the difference in physicality, our own team showed great heart and determination to never give up and always tried to do the right thing with the ball at the right time. Great credit has to go to the team’s coaches John O Donovan, Ted O Donovan and Des Murphy for preparing the team so well and for reaching the final. The panel on the night included: Dylan Cooke, Sophie O Donovan, Mark McCarthy, Milo Kennsella, Calum Murphy, Jerome McCarthy, Oran O Donovan, Ryan O Donovan, Joe McCarthy, Aodan Murphy, Steven Jennings, Joe O Donovan, Emma Whooley, Gavin Collins, Katie Whelton, Blaithin Murphy.

Their season isn’t finished yet, with the U12 Cup competition due to start this week, with our lads taking on O Donovan Rossa (2) in their opening game. The full draw is as follows: U12 Cup Draw: Gabriel Og v Castletwonbere, Ballingeary a bye, Kilmacabea v O Donovan Rossa (2), Clann Na Gael a bye.
