Club Notes 22-07-2021
Both our U13’S and U21’s were in action last week. Firstly the U13’s continued their great start to the year with another fine victory last Thursday evening at home over Ahan Gaels. This group is playing some fine football and all credit has to go to their coaches and mentors for putting in a fine effort and getting everyone playing high quality attacking football. Well done to all.
On Friday evening the U21’s travelled to Durrus to take on St Colums in the U21 C Football Championship Final. Having defeated Kilmeen in the semi final two weeks previous, it was the Kilmacs who started the better and at the first water break they led by 0-5 to 0-1. A Colums goal saw the gap cut to two before half time but with the half time approaching some great approach play it was rattled to the back of the net to lead the half time score Kilmacabea 1-9 St Colums 1-2.
At the resumption it was the western men who gained the upper hand and by the second water break the gap was down to a single point. With the heat being a huge factor throughout the game it was the Kilmacs who seemed to suffer the most and with the St Colums men closing the game the stronger, two late free’s snatched the game away by a single point, final score Kilmacabea 1-13 St Colums 3-8.
Despite the result the whole club is very proud of this group of young lads, who have very little preparation leading in championship. Huge thanks to the management team of Dan Hourihane, Denis O Donovan, Kevin Cooke and Liam Thompson for the work they put into this group.
Finally the whole club would like to wish our clubman Damien Gore and the rest of the Cork Senior Football Panel the very best of luck in this Sunday’s Munster Senior Football Final v Kerry in Killarney.
