Club Notes 01-08-2019

Everyone associated with the club would like to congratulate Damien Gore and Ian Jennings and their Cork U20 teammates on their superb All Ireland semi final victory over Tyrone last Saturday evening in Tullamore. This was a huge result for this group, as early in the second half they trailed by six points and the game looked dead and buried. But a number of personal switches, along with the sending off of a Tyrone player let the Cork team back into the game. Despite not getting on the scoreboard, Damien put in a hugely hardworking performance and his ability to win his own ball and pick out his teammates under pressure was a great benefit to the team. This all means that the team managed to run out winners by 2-17 to 1-18. Ian is a member of the extended panel.

Damien, Ian and their teammates will now take on Dublin in the All Ireland final, which takes place on Saturday 4th August at 4pm in O Moore Park, Portlaoise. So, all associated with Kilmacabea GAA Club want to wish Damien and the whole Cork U20 panel and management the very best of luck in the final on Saturday. This is a huge game and we hope that all our supporters would get out their red and white flags and bunting and give Damien and Ian the support they richly deserves.

As we tick over into August, Kilmacabea GAA Community Festival 2019 kicks off this week. Due the involvement of Damien and Ian in the All Ireland U20 Final on Saturday, all festival events in the GAA Grounds are deferred to a later date. The Fr Crowley Cup final will now take place at 2pm on Sunday. All events are posted on the club website and on all club social media pages. The committee would like to encourage everyone to get their thinking caps on and come up with ideas for the annual RAG parade through the village, due to be held on Sunday 4th, floats are asked to assemble in the GAA pitch from 6:30pm onwards. The parade will get underway at 8pm sharp.

At the time of writing, the Junior A Football Championship 3rd Round game v St Colums is provisionally fixed for Sunday 11th August in Dunmanway. This fixture will be confirmed after the U20 All Ireland Final this weekend.
