Club Notes 08-08-2019
All hail the All Ireland Champions!!! Any Kilmacabea person who was present in Portlaoise last Saturday evening must have been bursting with pride, as they watched Junior players Damien Gore and Ian Jennings and their Cork U20 teammates come back from the dead and defeat Dublin to win the All Ireland U20 championship. Damien played a starring role in the final, and contributed four crucial points to help Cork over the line and land their first All Ireland title in any grade since 2010. Ian was a member of the extended training panel and help to contribute to this historic triumph. To have one player on a county panel is a huge honour for any club but to have two talented individuals is a testament to the coaching going on in the club over the past number of years. Both Damien and Ian are fantastic ambassadors for both the club and their families and can justifiable proud of their achievements with Cork.
Both Ian and Damien along with Cork captain, Peter O Driscoll were made very welcome in Leap on Sunday evening last as they showed off the All Ireland trophy before the festival RAG parade. Kilmacabea GAA Community Festival has come and gone for another year and can yet again be seen a success. The Fr Crowley Cup once again was very entertaining and this year it was the turn of Rachel Connolly’s team to take home the cup, which was presented by Peter Crowley nephew of the late Fr Michael Crowley. Donal O Donovan’s team were the Plate winners for this year. The RAG parade also took place again this year and was the source of plenty of creativity and laughs with the honours going to Corran Church (BYOB), with Leap Church featuring Fr Kevin O Driscoll and Love Island and the Late Late Show Kilmac Special taking the runners up spots.
With the excitement of the past weekend, next weekend see’s our Junior Footballers back in championship action when they travel to Dunmanway to take on St Colums on Sunday evening at 6:30pm. So we hope that a large crowd will turn out and back the team and help them onto victory.
