Club Notes 12-8-2019
The Junior A footballers returned to action last Sunday night when they faced St Colum’s in a round 3 clash in Dunmanway last Sunday evening. A slow start left the Kilmacs four points down at the break but an improved second half saw them edge ahead only for Colum’s to draw level and force a replay. A full report can be found elsewhere in these pages. Team: Karl McCarthy, Mark Jennings, Niall Hayes, Darren Whooley, Declan O’Sullivan, Colin McCarthy, Clive Sweetnam, Daniel O’Donovan, Martin Collins, Dan Lynch, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Sam O’Driscoll, Ian Jennings, Joseph Collins and Damien Gore.
Our minor footballers were in championship action on Monday night against Béal Áthan Ghaorthaidh in Aughaville. Despite a strong start and leading by 1-3 to 0-5 at the break they eventually had to give best to their opponents. The final score was Kilmacabea 1-6 2-12 Béal Áthan Ghaorthaidh. Commiserations to this talented and committed group of players and their hard-working and committed management team.
A big congratulations and thank you to all who helped to make our festival a huge success once again this year. We hope all who visited enjoyed a great few days. Thanks also to the victorious Cork under 20 team and management for stopping off in the village on Bank Holiday Monday night. It was great to see young and old mingling and getting photographed with the team and congratulating them and was a fitting way to bring the curtain down on the festivities.
Congratulations also to the players from our neighbouring clubs who were part of the victorious Cork minor football team in the All-Ireland Minor Football Semi-Final in Croke Park last Saturday.
The club is hosting the Carbery Junior B Hurling Quarter-Final featuring Gabriel Rangers and Randal Óg on Saturday evening at 5pm. Help with stewarding from 4pm on would be much appreciated.
Fixtures for the coming week: Junior A Round 3 Replay v St Colums, Sunday 18 August in Dunmanway at 6.30pm (extra time if required).
