Club Notes 16-01-2020
A large crowd crammed into the The Leap Inn last Saturday night to celebrate past and present successes. The main event of the evening was the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the County Junior B victory in 1994 and it was wonderful to see so many old and familiar faces on the night. Current chairman Dan Hourihane welcomed everyone on the night and commented on the great gathering before him. John Keohane, a selector in 1994, took the mic and preceded to introduce the County Champions of 1994 before captain Pat Burke added his thoughts on the celebration and that momentus year. The man who was given most credit on the night was the trainer of the 94 team, Tom Walshe. Tom spoke very well on the night and gave his words of encouragement and wisdom to the club’s current crop of Junior Footballers. Finally, Donal O Donovan, gave a wonderful account of that great year and the fantastic achievements achieved.
Also on the night the 2019 Junior C Football Champions were presented with their medals, after their wonderful victory over Clonakilty last November in the West Cork Final. The Annual Club Awards were also presented on the night and Club President Michael O Donovan presented the winners with their trophies on the night. The winners were as follows: Young Player of the Year (U16): Owen Tobin, Player of the Year: Damien Gore and Club Person of the Year: Donie O Donovan. Many thanks must go to The Leap Inn for their hospitality on the night and also to all those that attended this very special event.
Once again, last Saturday evening saw Damien Gore represent himself and his club , as he kicked 0-3 in Cork Senior Footballers McGrath Cup final defeat against Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds. Well done to Damien and we hope to see him in the blood and bandage again during the upcoming National Football League.
