Club Notes 03/09/2020
The past week has been all about the underage club with both the U12’s and Minors in action. On Monday 24th it was the u12’s that were in action as they hosted Gabriel Rangers. This proved to be an excellent night for the u12’s as they played some wonderful football and showed great skill and endevour and ran out comfortable winners on the night by 5-25 to 1-5. This leaves the team now top of their section and means they qualify for the playoffs in the next few weeks. Well done to all associated with the team and all the players.
On Wednesday the 26th the Minor footballers welcomed Ballingeary to Leap. For this year, the championship has been run off in a league format. Despite being beaten in their opening two games, this very young side showed in both games that with a little more luck that good results are only around the corner. This game against Ballingeary seemed to be going the same way, with the team trailing by 4 points midway through the second half. But a superb last quarter of the game saw the Kilmacs close the gap but it wasn’t until Robbie McCarthy fired the ball to the back of the Muskerry men’s net that the Kilmacs had this game won. The game ended on a score line of Kilmacabea 4-10 Ballingeary 3-12 and there were great scenes of celebration at the whistle. This group has put in a huge effort and defeating an opponent who’ve had the upper hand over the past few years was very sweet indeed. The team who put in a great performance was as follows: Mark Cooke, Liam Tobin, Kevin McCarthy, James Hodnett, Owen Tobin, Paudie Gore, Denis White, Cian Minehane, Eoghan O Donovan, Shane O Sullivan (2-8, 1-0 from a penalty, 0-7 from free’s), Liam McCarthy (1-0), John Keating (0-2), Robbie McCarthy (1-0). Subs: Conor Burns and Mark O Sullivan.
The Junior A Football Championship kicks back into life this coming weekend, with the Junior Footballers taking on St Marys in an eagerly anticipated encounter. After an easy first round victory over Bandon, the men from Ballineen will provide a much sterner test for our lads. This game is fixed for Sunday evening the 6th at 6:15pm in Timoleague. Due to the updated COVID-19 restrictions, no supporters are allowed to attend the game, and we hope our loyal supporters will abide by these regulations. To this end, both clubs are trying to arrange a You tube stream of the game and we hope to have more information regarding this later in the week. So keep an eye on club social media accounts for up to date information regarding this.
The club is also down to host the St Colums v Clonakilty Junior A Football Championship game on Saturday 5th at 6:15pm.
Junior Footballer Ian Jennings was part of the UCC GAA team that was defeated by Duhallow in the Premier Senior Football Championship Colleges/Divisions final last week. Ian contributed to a marvellous game of football and scored a great goal despite his sides defeat on the night.
