Club Notes 05-08-2021

Sunday afternoon last saw the Junior A Footballers travel to Dunmanway to take on Iveleary in the semi final of the 2020 County Junior A Football Championship. This was being build as a classic clash with two good footballing sides facing off against each other. Unfortunately for our Kilmac lads the day quickly turned into a hard struggle, as they were comprehensively outplayed by a well drilled and hungrier Inchigeelagh outfit. Despite an early goal from classy centre forward Ian Jennings, it was the men from Muskerry who held all the aces on the day and retired at the half time interval leading by 1-5 to 1-11. Our lads needed to start the second half brightly and really needed a quick goal to ignite our challenge. As can so often be the case it was the Iveleary men who got the early second half goal and from there until the final whistle they dominated the proceedings. For the record the final score read: Kilmacabea 1-8 Iveleary 5-16.

Despite the comprehensive defeat for our lads, the whole club and parish is still very proud of their efforts in once again reaching the latter stages of the County series, and were it not for the enforced suspension of all sporting activities last October maybe there may have been a different outcome to the County series. Again the club would like to put on record, their thanks to all the dedication and sacrifice by each and everyone of the panel throughout the past 18 months and we also extend those sentiments to the management team ably led by a true Kilmac in Kevin O Driscoll.

All this means that once again we must start again, and this means we will face St Marys from Ballineen in the 1st Round of the 2021 Carbery Junior A Football Championship. Date, time and venue of this game are yet to be announced see keep an eye on club social media for update fixture details

Also last week our U12’s made the short trip to Aughaville to take on our great rivals Tadgh MacCarthaigh and carried on their excellent performances of late and ran out comfortbale winners by 5-12 to 4-4.

On Friday night next the 6th August, the club is hosting the Bandon Co-op Junior A Football Championship 1st round tie between O Donovan Rossa and Carbery Rangers. Throw in is at 7:15pm.
