Club Notes 01-06-2023

A busy few weeks for the club with lots of action on the pitch. Here is a brief review of the last few weeks:

Junior Football

Our Junior A Footballers travelled to Kealkil on Sunday 14th May and endured a difficult afternoon losing out by 2-11 to 0-8. The Junior C Footballers made the short trip to Union Hall on Thursday 18th May and took on Castlehaven in the league. A great all round team performance saw the lads run out 2-19 to 0-9 winners on the night.

U16 Football

The U16 Footballers took on Ilen Rovers in the Quarter Final of the league on Monday 15th May and playing some superb football, withstood a second half comeback to run out 4-9 to 0-18 winners on the night. They then travelled to Glengarriff on Sunday 28th to take on Caha Og in the Semi Final of the league. This game showed the true grit and determination of this group, trailing by 9 points at half time and then by 12 points ten minutes into the second half, this group slowly started to reel in the Beara lads and remarkably managed to pip them by a single point in a frantic finish, final score being 5-12 to 5-11.

U14 Football

This group continued their impressive year by defeating Clann Na Gael in the semi final of the league on the 12th May in Leap. The final score was 4-18 to 3-6 in favour of the Kilmacs. This qualified them for the league final, which was played on Monday 22nd May in Church Cross v Muntir Bhaire. This was a superb game of football and it was a very close match until the lads from Durrus pulled away in the end. The Kilmacs put in a great gutsy display and despite the defeat this group have showed great potential heading into the championship.

U14 Ladies Football

The U14 Ladies continued their first campaign at this grade with two further games in the past few weeks. On Monday 15th May they travelled to Dunmanway but had to give way to a much stronger Dohenys side on the night. On Monday 22nd May they hosted Clann Na Gael and ran out comprehensive winners on the night.

U12 Football

This team took on St Oliver Plunketts in Ahiohill on Monday 15th May and played some excellent football but had to give way to the hosts on the night.

The whole club would like to congratulate Junior Football Matthew O Neill who completed a Skydive and a Marathon in London over the weekend of May 19th-21st in aid of Marymount Hospice. Matthew took on these two events in memory of his late mother Margaret and the whole club is very proud of Matthew and his achievements
