Carbery Junior A Football Champions 2018

“It only took us 129 years to win our first West Cork title, now we have back to back titles”, these were the immortal words uttered by a delighted Kilmacabea GAA supporter who had witnessed the Junior A Footballers marvellous 0-15 to 0-10 replay victory over Tadgh MacCarthaigh in Drimoleague last Saturday evening. A large crowd gathered in buoyant mood to watch outstanding captain Niall Hayes, raise The Mick McCarthy Cup aloft and bring it back to the parish for only the 2nd time.

The bonfires were lit and a large crowd waited patiently for the victorious Junior A footballers marched triumphantly and fittingly, from John William Goulding Park, into Leap village and a huge roar went up as Niall and the rest of the team took the adulation of the waiting crowd. Club chairman Dan Hourihane spoke of his pride and admiration for the team and their manager Noel McCarthy, who has carried on the good work of his predecessors.

Everyone associated with the club, would like to congratulate Noel and his management team of Frank Wilson, James O Donovan and Noel Crowley on yet another historic victory for the club. The work that both the management and players have put in since last January, has been outstanding and Saturday was the just reward for that hard work and endeavour.

The team will now take on the East Cork Runners Up in the first round of the County Junior Football Championship. That game, between Midleton and Fr. O Neills is fixed for the 18th of the month, so the Kilmacs could be out the following weekend of the 23rd/24th of September.

But for now we will all rest easy in the knowledge that the Kilmacs are once again Kingpins of the Carbery Junior Football Championship. Kilmacabea Abu!!!!
