Club Notes: 20-01-2022
Kilmacabea GAA AGM took place on December 10th 2021 last in the GAA Pavilion. The usual business of the AGM took place on the night with Secretary Narelle Jennings giving a brief run down of the 2021 season and Treasurer Jennifer Sweetnam outlining the clubs financial position over the past 12 months. It was noted the commitment the Junior A Footballers gave and despite a disappointing end to 2021, the team has enough ability in the panel to challenge again in 2022. It was announced that Kevin O Driscoll had stepped down as manager and that Shane Crowley Senior (Skibbereen) would be the new Junior A Footballer manager for the coming year. Chairman Dan Hourihane thanked Kevin for all the hard work in has put in to the team in the last 9 years. The u12’s were also congratulated on their back to back West Cork title wins and it shows great promise for the future of the club, especially with all the hard work going into the underage section at present. Barry Glavin was elected as new Club Vice-Chairperson while William Williamson was elected as Child Liaison Officier. All other officers were returned unopposed. It was also decided to look into upgrading the lighting facilities on the playing field and this will be revisited at a future meeting.
It has been a busy opening to the new year for our Cork Senior footballer Damien Gore, who was involved in the county’s McGrath Cup victory over Clare played in Miltown Malbay recently. Damien was also named as joint captain of the MTU Cork Campus’s Sigerson Cup side and played a starring role, kicking nine points on the night as they defeated great rivals UCC in the opening round of the competition. They now face their sister college, MTU Kerry Campus in the next round on Tuesday 18th and we wish Damien and his teammates the best of luck.
The club would also like to congratulate Liam McCarthy and Mark Cooke who were part of the Skibbereen Community School senior football panel who defeated Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra, Rathmore by 1-14 to 0-14 to advance to the semi final of the Corn Ui Mhuiri competition. They will now take on Tralee CBS in the semi- final and we wish the two lads and the whole team the best of luck.
