Club Notes: 28-07-2022

The club will hold its annual flag day fundraiser in Skibbereen on Friday 29th. Help will be needed as this is one of the club’s best fundraisers as all funds go into running the underage club for the year. If you are available and would like to volunteer please contact club treasurer Jennifer Sweetnam.

Last Saturday evening our Junior A Footballers travelled to Drimoleague to take on Ballinascarthy in the second game of the Carbery JAFC Championship round robin. Having defeated Kilbrittain in the opening group game, the team were confident going into this game. Despite a bright opening and holding an early 3 point, two quick fire goals for the Ballinascarthy men meant the lads trailed by four points at the break, Kilmacabea 0-5  Ballinascarthy 2-3. An early second half converted penalty brought the team back into the game and managed to close the gap to a single point in the final ten minutes. Unfortunately it was the eastern men who finished stronger and it was defeat for our lads, Kilmacabea 1-9  Ballinascarthy 3-9.

This result means that the final group game against Clonakilty is now a must win game to progress to the knockout stages and this game is due to be played on the weekend of August 13th/14th.

There were great scenes in Drimoleague on Monday evening, as the U12 girls team created history by reaching the ladies club’s first every West Cork final by defeating Clann Na Gael. Congratulations to all involved and we wish the girls all the very best of luck in the final.

The U13’s travelled to Rossmore last Thursday evening in a league game and ran out comfortable winners over the hosts Kilmeen.

U15 Football Championship v Gabriel Og on Wednesday 27th at 7pm in Ballydehob

U15 Football League v Owen Gaels on Saturday 30th at 11am in Leap
