Club Notes 05-09-2022
Our Junior Footballers bowed out of the Junior A Football Championship at theQuarter Final stage last Sunday evening after an agonising one point defeat at the hands of St Marys. At a windswept Ardfield, it was the Kilmacs that started brighter and with the wind at their backs raced into an eight point lead after fifteen minutes. Despite this by half time the deficit was down to just four points with the elements against the team in the 2nd half. Despite near constant pressure on the Kilmac goal for much of the half, it was the Kilmacs who held a four point lead heading into the final ten minutes. The loss of influential captain Sam O Driscoll to injury, proved to be too much and five unanswered points from the Ballineen outift meant that they won by a single point, Kilmacabea 2-9 St Marys 1-13.
While it was a difficult defeat to take, the Kilmacs died with their boots on and maybe on a different day things could have gone our way. The club would like to thank Shane Crowley, Barry Glavin and Denis O Driscoll for all the hard work put in during the year and to all the backroom staff aswell. Here’s hoping 2023 will be a better year.
Having brought the first ever ladies title back to the club a few weeks back, the U12 girls welcomed White’s Cross to Leap on Sunday 28th August in the opening game of the county league section. Playing some outstanding football it was the Kilmac girls who emerged victorious on the day, Kilmacabea 6-4 Whites Cross 3-7. They followed up this great win, when they travelled to Grenagh last Sunday, and despite putting in a huge effort, they had to give way to a much stronger Mid Cork outifit on the day, Kilmacabea 3-4 Grenagh 4-18. This group will play Kilshannig in their last game on Sarurday 17th in Leap, time to be confirmed.
In the past week also the U15 boys travelled to Durrus to take on Muintir Bhaire in the championship and ran out winners on the night, Kilmacabea 7-9 Muintir Bhaire 5-6.
Fixtures for the coming week:
U13 Playoff Quarter Final v Clondrohid on Saturday 10th at 11 am in Leap
