Club Notes 19-08-2019
Two Kilmacabea teams were in Championship action again this past week, with the Juniors taking on St Colums in their 3rd round replay and the Minors took on Ballingeary in Aughaville. The Minors were the first out on Monday 12th and started very brightly leading at half time by 1-3 to 0-5. Unfortunately, a stronger Ballingeary outfit began the 2nd half the bighter and despite the best efforts of our lads they had to give way to the better team on the night. Full time score Kilmacabea 1-6 Ballingeary 2-11. Despite this defeat, the Minors will have another championship game with the introduction of the backdoor this year. This means the team will now play Clann Na Gael in the loser’s round and this game has been fixed for Tuesday 27th at 6:45pm in Dunmanway.
Then it was the turn of the Juniors to recommence battle with St Colums last Sunday evening in Dunmanway. As many replays, this was a completely different game with the Kilmacs looking hungrier and more up for the game this week. A great start, coupled with some outstanding defending and a tremendous work-rate all over the field, meant that the team led the men from Kealkil by 1-5 to 0-2 at half time. The second half became more of a fractured affair with both sides reduced to 14 men before a late surge from the St Colums men saw the Kilmacs reduced to 13 players. Despite this reduction in numbers our men showed the true mark of champions and dug in and recorded a fantastic 1-10 to 1-4 victory. This win now see’s the Kilmacs face Ballinascarthy in the Quarter final of the championship, a game that hasn’t been fixed at the time of writing.
The clubs annual flag day takes place this Friday 24th in Skibbereen. This flag day is very important as the funds raised go towards helping to run the underage club for the year. If anyone wants to volunteer to help out on the day you can contact Jennifer Sweetnam.
The u12’s played Gabriel Rangers in their League Quarter Final on Monday evening and ran out good winners by 5-14 to 3-6.
