Club Notes: 19-10-2023

Last Saturday was a busy day for the club with two of the club’s teams in action and an awards ceremony in the evening.

Firstly the U16’s made the short trip to the Marsh in Skibbereen to take on Urhan in the Rebel Og West U16 League final. This was always going to be a tough ask against a physically stronger and older Urhan side but the Kilmacs put in a great display and on another day might have got a more positive result. This will be a great learning experience for our lads and will benefit them as they progress onto the older age groups.

It was then off to Rosscarbery on Saturday evening as the Junior C Footballers took on Carbery Rangers in the first round of the championship. This was a very good display of attacking football by the Kilmacs and they deservedly lead by 1-4 to 0-5 at half time. The second half was a more one- sided affair with the Kilmacs restricting Ross to a single point and adding a further 1-6 to run out comfortable winners by 2-10 to 0-6. The team will now take on Castlehaven in the next round, date and time to be confirmed.

Finally on Saturday evening it was off to the Celtic Ross Hotel for the West Cork Ladies Awards night. Nell Kinsella received her award for her player of the match display in the C1 U12 West Cork Final. Nell was presented with her award by Cork Ladies football and camogie star Libby Coppinger and it was great to see a large Kilmac contingent out in force to celebrate Nell’s achievement on the night.

The draw for the upcoming U21 B Football Championship took place during the past week, and our  U21’s will be part of the Killen amalgamation with Ilen Rovers and have been pitted against Tadgh MacCarthaigh in the Quarter Final.

The Junior A Football Championship has reached the semi – final stage and our Junior Footballers will take on old foes and great rivals Tadgh MacCarthaigh. This game is fixed for Rossa Park, Skibbereen on Sunday 22nd at 3:30pm and we encourage all our supporters to make their way to Skibbereen on Sunday and help the lads in their attempt to reach another final.

The club/community council lotto is up and running again since the start of the year, so don’t forget to play as the draw takes place every Monday night. Tickets can be bought at the usual local outlets at a price of €2 each or 3 for €5. Also the Lotto can be played online at www.leaplotto.ie and also on the Club force app by selecting Leap Lotto.
